Shelburne Fire Department Video LibraryRecognizing that the Department typically has limited access to video footage, this portion of the website will probably never be populated with a large number of videos. Likewise, we're going to try not to fill the page with 50MB files either. The purpose of this page is to put snippets of video footage that either serve to illustrate to the public what it's like to be in an emergency situation, or snippets that are useful from a training perspective. We would like to thank the News Department at WCAX TV, Channel 3 in Burlington for their permission to post videos from their newscasts on our website.
Video 1: Small Plane Crash in Charlotte, Vermont (July 2005)Scenario: On July 3, 2005 the Shelburne Fire Department was called to assist the Charlotte Fire Department in dealing with a small plane that crashed in Charlotte. Our Engine 1, Engine 3 and Rescue 4 responded to the scene and Engine 3 was sent out to the actual crash site because of its off-road capability and on-board foam system. This WCAX news report shows many members of the Shelburne Fire Department and shows our Engine 3 as it came out of the field. (.mpg format - 9.6 MB, RealPlayer - 2.5 MB)
Charlotte Plane Crash (Mpeg) Charlotte Plane Crash (RealPlayer) Video 2: Initial entry to a fire in the Yankee Doodle Motel (March 2006)Scenario: On March 8, 2006 the Shelburne Fire Department was called to a working fire in the end unit of the Yankee Doodle Motel, a single-story, wood-frame structure very typical of 1940-1960 roadside motels. Prior to the footage below, the doors and windows of the motel were closed. The fire was venting smoke from the attic, but it had not actively self-ventilated through the roof. The scene we've clipped and linked to the webpage was taken by a video camera in a Shelburne Police cruiser & the sounds in the background are from the radios in the cruiser. You'll see the two Shelburne firefighters prepare to enter the structure and take a defensive position as they force the door. Experienced firefighters can predict what happened next.
