Shelburne Tanker 5 is a 1995 E-One Tanker/Pumper on an International 2-door chassis. Tanker 5 is an important piece of apparatus as only about half of Shelburne is served by hydrants. It is equipped with a Hale 500-gallon per minute single-stage pump and a large 1,800-gallon water tank. The Tanker is also equipped with a Foam-Pro 1600 foam system and a 40-gallon foam cell.
The tank is equipped with a 10-inch quick dump valve at the back, allowing it to dump 1,600 gallons of water in about 60 seconds. To support how we handle rural water supply in this area, the Tanker carries a 2,500-gallon portable pond in an external rack. The Tanker is powered by a 530-horsepower International engine and has an Allison World transmission.
Depending on the specific circumstances, Tanker 5, with its crew of two, is the first vehicle to roll for wildland fires or for water supply mutual aid and is the second out for rural structure fires.
